Description
Season 2 original Silk acetate banner from the celebratory exposition for the opening of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges in San Francisco. An interesting fact is that an artificial island was built in the San Francisco Bay for the Expo which later became a naval base for World War II.
Banner cleverly reads “EXPO” along with 3 other White “X”s to make XXXX, for 1940, when included with the “X” in “EXPO”.
Only survivor we’ve ever seen. 47″ long (without hanging portion so really 4 feet+) and 11 1/2″ wide with original metal pole supports in sleeves at top and bottom and acetate tabs with rings for hanging. Has some filament connecting the rings but we are unsure whether this is original or not but it is as found in the estate. Unbelievable condition with only some large spot areas on the back that do not show on the front.
