Signed Paul Jacoulet "Vendeur De Masques Chinois" ( Chinese Mask Seller) Woodblock Print in Custom Frame

19 3/4" x 16 3/4" in fantastic custom frame with shiny brocade look edges. Hard to read but it is either number 04 or number 104. We believe the total edition was 350 and was produced on 12/30/1940. We further understand that the carver was Kentaro Maeda and the printer was Fusakichi Ogawa. Jacoulet's prints are known for their fantastic detail with many individual blocks and quality materials. The bottom edge where the edition numbers are has been folded to fit in the frame edge (see picture) and edition number is cropped but this has no effect on the image.

We're guessing this was framed in Japan as the back has a cloth strip from top to bottom to help hold picture in ornate cloths side frame. Picture cord needs to be tied again as it is loose but hangs fine as is, a minor detail. We have not fully pulled the piece away from the glass for fear of stray dust, etc. getting in-between the glass and print.

Frame shows some minor wear here and there but overall appearance, color and condition is excellent.

Please keep in mind that photos are taken through glass and some glare and some possible color casts may occur Use the close-ups for better view but ask questions if something doesn't look right (it is!). We make our best attempt to produce the pictures with the best representations and these colors are brighter and richer than digital photos generally allow with reasonable sized pictures.
