Very good, but not new condition. Can you tell me the value?
Thank you,
Fran Roads
Answer:Hi Fran,
Here's an opportunity for me to state the value of my listings no matter how old they are. This question has already been answered though the requester knew what this bottle was. If, for example, you searched for Poynter Products you could easily get some more information (e.g. that it's Jayne Mansfield!). In fact, my previous answer comes up within 2 pages on Google. Always happy to see people here of course but I know how frustrating researching can be even for me.
The going rate for these Jayne Mansfield hot water bottles in just good condition is about $50.
Thanks,
Elle

Subject: Davy Crockett American Bisque Cookie Jar I've seen several cookie jars, but not this type. Please, how much is it worth? Not completely uncommon but it is a desirable early jar. No condition mentioned so I can only provide a retail range of values from $150 to $400. There are still enough of these out there that bargains can be found with a little persistence. Subject: S&H Green Stamps 1961 Catalog I recently came across an S&H Green Stamp "ideabook of Distinguished Merchandise", essentially their catalogue from 1961. it is in pristine shape. Is there a market for this? Is there value in it? Would love to know. Thank you so much Elle, for the work you do. Thanks, too, for my pat on the back! I've been MIA for a little while due to my other site responsibilities that have taken precedent but I'm back with a vengeance now! Although content is key, catalogs have historically had a decent value and many of them can easily reach triple figures. The reasons that collectors buy them is varied but usually revolves around content as it relates to their collections. S&H catalogs are generally on the low end but, again, it is going to be the content that sells your catalog. As one of the best examples, a large layout of period toys is one of the biggest draws for catalogs. They provide great historical reference for toy collectors. Full color pages help. Currently your catalog can sell for anywhere from $25-50 depending on content. If you go to sell this online, make certain your description (and pictures) is very complete and highlights potential collectibles such as toys, bicycles, furniture, etc.. Use your imagination, if it can be collected, it's worth listing. Subject: Tom & Jerry Welch's Character Glasses They are empty and has no chips or cracks. Could these be of any value? Values for this series are still very much speculative and currently are generally less than $2 retail. Time will tell but I believe values for these later series will always be low. Subject: Valvoline Motor Oil Can Does this full unopened can have any value? Thank you. However, this type of can was used for many decades and many older oil cans are indeed valuable. The company and/or image on the can is usually the first determinants of value. Without more details such as the age (Valvoline goes back over 100 years though I 'm not certain about their oil products) and image on the can (pictures always helpful) I can 't say for certain whether your can has any significant value. Subject: Tiger (Tony?) Glass Would this set have any value, or do you know where I could find out? Thank You! Esso had a number of contests and premium give-aways in the 1960 's and 1970 's including glasses and coffee mugs with the Tiger image. There were a number of glass sets produced by Esso, most glasses fall into the $10-12.50 range. Subject: Headline Edition 8MM Film values It is in the original box, which has a small tear (that does not affect the graphics), one small side flap missing (doesn't show when the box is closed), and slight dirt, not much. The film itself and the reel it is on look like they were never used. My question is....I noticed my box says "Headline Edition". My husband says this is news that they used to show before films, because not everyone had TVs then. Is this true? And if so, does it make it more valuable? You said in one of the other replies that Andy Panda was harder to find and that they should go for, I think you said, $15-$25. I found some on eBay...some sold, some didn't, even with a starting bid of 3 or 4 dollars. BUT, none of them were headline editions. Thanks for any information you can give me on this! Ann As far as my experience goes, very few collector differentiate between the "types" of films. Therefore with the exceptions of the few sticklers our there, values would be similar. Though these short editions may have been shown in theaters as you note, it is a terminology of the 8 and 8MM business rather than an indication that these were specifically for theaters. As for the Ebay "values", Ebay is an auction and may or may not reflect retail values. With a week to find a buyer you may or may not make your sale. It is not uncommon for many collectible items to go unsold for a number of reasons on Ebay and values there are only one small part of evaluation market value and they should never be seen as THE value as some might insist. Auction (live or online) values are different than retail values. Subject: Beatles Yellow Submarine Sealed Album How much is it worth? Larry Label color makes a slight difference for the hard core collectors. Additionally, sealed albums command a premium in most cases and your copy would retail in the $50-75 range. I should note that depending on the interested parties the price you get could be significantly higher and can often be what the market will bear at that particular time. Additionally, it is not unheard of for many sellers to be "asking" (the operative word, not sold yet!) hundreds more which is not the "value". Subject: Red Ball Shoes High Heel Shoes Overshoes Keep the info coming, thanks, I agree too that they sound like a useable item today. I can only guess that something went awry like someone slipping or something. It 's a litigious society. Because I don 't have all the details, value would be speculative but I would put them in the $35-45 range simply based on usability. Question:I have a 1950's maybe early 60's cookie jar. It is of Davy Crockett with no markings on the lid or bottom. "Davy Crockett" is written across his chest and he is holding a small rifle....rifle end is on the ground and he is holding the barrel.
Debbie
Answer:Hi Debbie,
Sound like you have the American Bisque cookie jar which, unless you familiar with American Bisque look and feel, may be hard to identify as it doesn't have clear markings.

What a wonderful site you have! Thank you for taking time for us.
Lydia Liebchen
Answer:Hi Lydia,
First, everyone here appreciates the nice feedback on the site. We have just gone through a long process of totally redoing both Funk & Junk® and Digital Vintage and it looks like the work has paid off. We're not done yet so look for even more functionality, cool stuff and features soon.

Question:Elle,
I have two welches character glasses. Tom & Jerry on them, the characters are painted in color. The side of the glasses has 1991 Turner Entertainment Co.
Norma
Answer:Hi Norma!,
Values for this series are still very low and will probably remain relatively low due to the less than useful size and rounded shape. The vast majority of 1970's on character glasses are not only collected but generally used as well. The earlier Welches glasses had more of a traditional juice glass size and shape and are used more often than not.

Question:Could you tell me if the "Marx" Joy Ridder tin wind-up toy I have had a suitcase on the back?
John
Answer:Hi John!,
More like a trunk, but yes. Trunk is decorated with school themed pennants. There is also a Flapper style girl figure riding on top of the trunk.

Question:While cleaning out my mother's shed, I found an unopened can of Valvoline motor oil. This is the kind of can that required the metal pour spout that you pierced the top of the can with.

My first instinct is that your can has little value.

Question:HI Elle,
I have a set of drinking glasses with Tony the Tiger on them. My grandpa got them for me some where between 1973 and 1976 I'm not quite sure of the exact date. I do know he got them from a gas station back then. My Mom said they were giving them away at that time, but I'm not positive.
Jayne
Answer:Hi Jayne,
I suspect the glasses you have actually feature the Esso (Exxon) Tiger rather than Tony especially given that your certain they were given out at gas stations.
Elle
Question:Hello,
I read with interest the replies to the questions about old 8mm films. I just found an Andy Panda one (Walter Lantz) at a garage sale. It is #479, "Meatless Tuesday". I read on another site that it was released in 1943.
Answer:Hi Ann,
Headline edition refers to a shorter version (50 feet) than the "complete" (200 feet) editions. I 'm not really sure how these differ with relatively short cartoons (as opposed to films for example which feature edited versions with enough highlights to get you through) since there is little you can cut.

Question:I have a 1968 Unopened Beatles "Yellow Submarine" album. It includes the original film music composed and orchestrated by George Martin. It is in pristine condition.
Answer:Hi Larry,
The Yellow Submarine album is a fairly scarce album to find in good condition.

Question:Hi Elle,
You have a very informative website, so glad I found you. I have a pair of rubber overshoes for high heels (in the shape of high heels). They are made by RED BALL and are in the original box . I have not been able to find others like these on the internet other than a vintage RED BALL advertisement for them. Any ideas of value? Personally, I don't know why these are not made today, great way to save a good pair of high heels from bad weather.
Lori
Answer:Hi Lori,
I, too, have never seen these and I 've been around vintage for a while! Unfortunately you didn 't clue me into the vintage based on the ad so I 'm not certain when they were made. Could just as easily be 1950 's OR 1970 's. As this might be reflected in the design (pictures people!!), it could effect the value since style if a big pricing factor for vintage.

Question:Could you please tell me the value of a 1958 united feature syndicate inc. Charlie brown vinyl 6 inch pocket doll. face, shoes and socks are painted. clothing made of fabric. in very good condition.
Answer:Hi Terry,
In very good condition, Charlie sells in the $40 range.

Question:I have recently obtained a Twinkles the Elephant costume. It is in its original box. It is made by Collegeville Costumes. Child's size medium (8-10). If you could give me an approximate price, I would appreciate it.
Janise
Answer:Hi Janise,
It's a shame you didn 't clue me into condition at all, it's critical. It makes giving any real useable value almost impossible. In good condition, this costume in box with mask brings $150 or so but the variations above and below this condition can be significant so it may be difficult for you to get to your value

Question:Hi Elle,
My sister found a old Wrigley's Gum Wrapper in the attic of a very very old house. It is the stripped one. The Cover of the Wrapper it says Wrigley's Juicy Fruit Chewing Gum. On the other side it says This wrapper is a United Profit Sharing Coupon. On the inside of this wrapper,it says it's cash value worth 1/5 cent. It goes on to say WRIGLEY'S United Profit Sharing Coupon ONE Present for redemption at any United Profit Sharing Premium Station or send by mail or express prepaid to our sole redemption agent United Profit Sharing Corporation New York, NY
The next paragraph reads: Redeemable by United profit-sharing Corporation as our agent, according to terms of its catalog in effect at time of redemption, except that in any state or locality where redemption in goods is prohibited or requires payment of license or tax, not required for cash redemption, this coupon will be redeemed in cash only, and is void wherever prohibited. Signed Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company.
Then it says Do Not Send Coupons To Chicago Catalogs mailed free by United Profit Sharing Corporation upon request. WOW! there sure was a lot on that little wrapper. It is in Excellent condition.

Question:I have two men's leather jackets which my father owned. They are both in great condition. The length on both are about mid thigh. Now specifics-one:Wellington Leathers is the name on the tag, rust color, manufactured in Peabody,Mass. USA. Two: a brown color with the name Reed Sportswear on the tag. By the way would be 82 years old if he were still alive today.
Susan
Answer:Hi Susan,
Unfortunately, without a picture I can be of very little help. The reason is because such items sell more for their styling than the manufacturer. Color and cut are the big variables with vintage leather coats. As a general rule and despite usually being better made, vintage leather sells for much less than their new retail counterparts. This is true with many vintage clothing items as well.

Question:Hi,
I have a small 2" rubber dog. he looks kind of like Snoopy but is yellow. The back says "By Animal Fair Inc. Henry TM (the N is backwards). I cannot find this anywhere.

Answer:Hi Alma,
Your dog is from the "Henry" cartoon strip by Carl Anderson. Stuffed original versions can bring some good money.

Answer:Hi Lourdes,
Juice-o-mats are very popular and the design is still repeated with modern versions (though with less style!). Color is a small price variable, Red is a popular color, and most very good condition examples sell in the retail range from $40 to $50.
