I have a 45 size record case. The case shows a large musical note on the front but the bottom bulb of the note shows a man's head instead of a Black circle. Next to this is the name; Dick Clark. The case is made of reinforced cardboard and has a plastic handle at the top along with a latch to close the case. It is like new and I would say near mint.
Who is Dick Clark and how much is the case worth?
Thanks for the great service!,
Jenna
Answer:Hi Jenna,
Dick Clark is a legend in the Rock and Roll world and is best known for his show, American Bandstand, which first aired in 1952. Name a band from the 50-70's and they probably appeared on his show. Clark was entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 for his influence in the world of Rock and Roll.
Your case is a desirable piece of Rock and Roll and Pop Culture memorabilia. The condition is phenomenal given its intended use and it would sell for about $100.
Thanks for the nice comments and question,
Elle

Subject: Yellow Submarine Beatles hardback book It is in overall very good or better condition with just some scattered marks and dirt from reading. I know most Beatles collectibles are pretty valuable but I can't find any information on my book so I would appreciate it if you could tell me its value. Thanks, Your book is very scarce and hard to find in what sounds like really nice condition. The "gift book" holds no more significance than that was how it was marketed in shops. Your book normally sells for $125. Thanks, Choose another question by subject Choose another question by Date Posted Shop at Funk & Junk Collectibles and Vintage Clothing
Subject: Rolling Stones "Some Girls" record cover variations There were 2 different covers made, one with the faces of stars and one with the faces deleted. I have the one with the faces and it is unopened, in excellent condition. Thank- You, The "under construction" version in sealed condition would sell for $7-10 while your more desirable all picture version sells for $10-15. Subject: Hubley "Panther" cap pistol No name given In good condition , showing signs of less than normal wear, your gun usually for $85. In mint condition, however, it jumps to about $175. Use this range to determine a fair value for your gun if/when you find it. Demand is high for this particular gun mostly because of its unique wrist holster. Subject: Howdy Doody premium ring set I have a set of plastic flicker rings featuring Howdy Doody characters (though I'm unsure about a couple). There are eight rings; Howdy with Buffalo Bob, Howdy's head, Clarabell , Flubadub, the Princess (name?), an Indian Chief (is this a Howdy character?) , a cute Bee in prison? stripped outfit (again, I'm not sure about this one) and Mr. Bluster. The rings have plastic bases with flicker tops. The rings are in near mint condition. Thanks, Indeed, all your rings are part of a hard to complete set offered by Rice Honey cereal in the late 50's. To clear up a few of your character questions first: As I mentioned, this is a very hard set to find complete. Especially in near mint condition! Your set would sell for $250-$275. The premium ring market is very hot right now. Thanks, Choose another question by subject Choose another question by Date Posted Shop at Funk & Junk Collectibles and Vintage Clothing
Subject: Levi "Big E" jacket and jeans Many thanks, All of the critical factors of value have been left out of your request. Your case is an unusual one since I'm not surprised that the average person is unaware of some of these criteria and that's why I'm at least forwarding the information above to give you a little bit of a head start in the selling process. Here are the chief factors towards valuing vintage denim; Because of these missing pieces of information I am unable to give you even a range of values since it would be ridiculously broad and of little help. It does illustrate, however, that you can never provide too much information. Once again a large number of requests are coming in with almost no detail at all. These requests are generally tossed into the trash so I reiterate that you must provide something for me to go on. Again, Delkane, I wouldn't necessarily expect anything more than you provided as a novice but it's the only time I have to let people know. Since your likely to get the best value at a vintage clothing store I would suggest finding one or more in your area and do a little comparison shopping. Remember, you'll be dealing with a retail establishment so expect only a percentage of value if they buy it outright. A higher percentage may happen with a consignment if a store is willing to sell it under these conditions. Hope it helps a little, Choose another question by subject Choose another question by Date Posted Shop at Funk & Junk Collectibles and Vintage Clothing
Subject: Hopalong (Hoppy) Cassidy plate and gun Could you please give me an idea as to their value. Thanks, I am unfamiliar with such a large horse "figure" and I was unsure of what it was made of (plastic, stuffed, etc..) so you'll have to be happy with two our of three this time. Your plate is part of a dinner set but most often found and sold as a separate item. Plates in mint condition sells for $75-90. Unfortunately, there are a few guns produced for Hoppy. The two that spring to mind are made by Schmidt and Wyandotte. The later, Schmidt, version is 9" long Silver gun with Black grips that have a White bust of Hopalong on them. Wyandotte made a couple of versions but if your gun is Gold with all Black grips you could at least tell between these two examples. There are other guns that were made for Hoppy and all of them have significant value. The Schmidt guns in mint condition will sell for $325-$400 while you can count on roughly another 25% on top of these numbers for the Gold, Wyandotte version. Both of these guns came in either a single or double holster set which adds and incredible amount to its value. Subject: Public Assistance welfare game Ted This game is not very easy to find mostly due to its relative low distribution as it was sold mostly through smaller shops. Once you find a game you can expect to pay $55-70 for a game in at least overall excellent to mint condition. As for where to locate this (or most other similar requests I receive) I really can't provide a specific shop to go to find Collectibles since most don't currently specialize down to this level. As with most Antiques and Collectibles it is a matter of going from location to location and being patient. After all, they do say that the hunt is half the fun. Having said all that, Funk & Junk® currently has this game in nice condition posted on the site (which is linked below). Subject: Elvis year of death concert ticket Brino However, condition may hurt your sale and negate many of these pluses. It is difficult for me to properly evaluate the condition with your statement since a "bit" of wrinkling to you may differ from my interpretation. As I said many times, condition is everything when it comes to ephemera (paper product Collectibles) and I can only estimate good or G- condition. Unused tickets for 1977 canceled shows generally sell for $75+ for excellent to Mint examples. Your example, given my estimate of condition, would be valued at around $25 but might also be hard to sell as it probably doesn't display too well with the wrinkles. Subject: Brenda Lee "I'm Gonna Lasso Santa Clause" Christmas 78 RPM picture sleeve record Any idea of the value of this or is it worth hanging on to? BTW...It is in mint condition. Ed It is important to point out that both your sleeve and record must be in mint condition to reach the retail value of between $25 and $35. The sleeve increases the value of the record by an additional ~50%! So a mint record in a lesser sleeve would only bring about $15 to $25. Worth hanging on to? Tricky question. I would say it certainly is if your a fan of Brenda Lee or collect Christmas records but otherwise if a buyer comes along and offers close to these numbers, even $20, you should sell. Subject: Wizard of Oz Glinda the Good Witch Mego action figure / box Thanks A Bunch! A mint Glinda doll in a good box brings about $40, give or take in the retail arena. In my opinion it is not the time to sell this doll despite its value staying relatively low and stable for the last few years. With all the other older Oz stuff bringing such high prices it is only a matter of time before the value gets a little boost. Subject: Ronald McDonald character watch It has a picture of Ronald sitting cross legged with his right arm over his head and waving. It also has a copyright marking just above his right knee. The only writing on front says either 17 or 77 jewels Swiss. On the back cover it has the inscription "1318 all stainless steel water resistant" 1318 is printed upside down and water resistant is one word. I still wind it up from time to time and it seems to keep good time. However, it is missing one of the leather wrist straps. The only identifying marks on the wrist straps are three large holes just before the pin holes. Thank you for your time and news letter, Provided the crystal is in decent shape and the image can be seen clearly, a working example would retail in the $60-70 range. The original strap helps add to the value of this one and it's a cool 70's strap by itself but it doesn't destroy the value either. Subject: Big Chief cast iron cap pistol It has Big Chiefon one side , and made in the USA on the other side. Also the barrel is hexagon shaped. It's in good condition except the trigger and hammer are loose, like the spring is missing that makes the hammer snap back. My Great Grandfather found it plowing a field years ago. Rickey Condition is going to kill you on this one unfortunately since a non-working example is usually not sought after and, therefore, provides display value only. In only good condition this display value, too, is minimal. In near mint to mint condition this gun would sell in the $40+ range. With a non-working example such as yours you would be lucky to get $12-15. Subject: Ask Swami fortune telling diner machine Eddie "Decent" condition opens up a number of holes and I would rather have a more common term used to avoid any confusion. I will make the assumption that your machine is in VG+ condition (not that this type of evaluation term isn't without its drawbacks). Obviously you have the best possible situation as the machine not only works but has a supply of original cards which will help in making a faster sale. I would place a retail value of $275-350 on your machine. Thanks, Choose another question by subject Choose another question by Date Posted Shop at Funk & Junk Collectibles and Vintage Clothing
Subject: Beverly Hillbillies "number 1" dolls Your response is greatly appreciated, That's not to say that your dolls are worthless and many of the T.V. series dolls from this line are sought after, though not extremely valuable. They are still heating up slowly, however, and they haven't reached their potential yet. Most of the dolls sold in the $15 range though some of the lesser series did go on sale eventually. Some of these dolls are still selling at or below their original cost. Your dolls generally sell in the $15-25 range for near mint to mint boxed examples though you can find them for as little as $10 if you do some hunting around. Your examples in "messed up" boxes would probably only sell for $10 each. Remember, collecting for profit is about timing to a large extent. This is one reason that your not likely to see these dolls in a true collectibles shop yet and see them mostly trading hands from one individual to another in the secondary market. I think if your willing to hold on to them they will climb slowly in value. This will be helped by the relative scarcity of original Beverly Hillbillies items and their steadily increasing values. As the old items values increase your items will be a cheaper alternative for some. Subject: Lunch boxes and Thermos, various Thanks for any help you can give me. I have a 1967 Metal Superman Lunch box. National Periodical Publications, Inc. by Thermos. There is no thermos with it. It is in pretty good condition (worn on edges a little). Superman is being attacked by four villains on one side and on the front Superman is flying over the city. I also have a Flintstones metal lunch box. Aladdin Industries Inc. Nashville Tenn. USA. Hanna Barbera Productions Inc. (no year, approx. 1966). Fred is diving into the water where Pebbles is holding onto a log. Barney is taking there picture. Also, Bamm-Bamm is sliding down Dino's back. Wilma and Betty are having a drink on the beach next to the Hard Rock Lodge. Could you tell me the value of a metal Dick Tracy lunch box? The thermos is gone, but the lunch box itself is in good condition, and from the mid sixties. Any value here? Thanks for your time! , The "Fonz" thermos has Fonzie from happy days leaning on his motorcycle. The thermos was manufactured at King-Seeley Thermos Company. I can not find a manufacture date on this. Thermos is in good shape with glass filler cup and stopper. and is 9 1/2 inches tall. This also cleans out the lunch box/thermos requests I currently have so if you submitted one and haven't heard back your question was rejected for some reason or another. Feel free to resubmit. Gina, The Partridge family is a hot commodity these days. Both a metal and a plastic (later) thermoses exists and both have significant value. In unused condition you would expect to see it in a retail shop for $55-60. Betsy, Your Superman box is certainly super. in VG condition (if only a little wear, mostly on edges) would sell in the $250 range. You'll need to adjust this value if you haven't pointed out all the defects. Donna, You've provided another cool box. The Dick Tracy box was issued in 1967. I would have liked to have had a few more details with your evaluation of good but you box would probably fall into the $100-125 range. Michele, Your Fonz thermos/box was issued in 1978. Again, a few more details about defects would have helped me out but your thermos likely falls into the $25 range. Subject: Animal Fair Inc. plush / stuffed manufacturer Thanks, Unfortunately, there is little documentation on most stuffed manufactures save for the biggest/highest quality makers. If you really want more detailed history I would suggest dropping them an Email, maybe they have something in their files from the original company that was in business from at least the 40/50's. If your really hard core, you could also visit or write Eden, Minn. chamber of commerce, etc. where the company was located. As for the value of the doll I would have to put it at near nothing save for a possible small group of niche collectors that may be out there (though I am unaware of any). Your dog is very generic and not very detailed and, therefore, has less appeal generally speaking than a character doll, for example. Animal Fair did manufacture some real winners, the highest value Animal Fair dolls are the cereal mascot dolls put out in the 50's and these dolls can go for many hundreds of dollars. Subject: Lone Ranger on Silver toothbrush holder figure The figure is like many I have seen before that has Silver (his horse) rearing up with Lone Ranger in the saddle with his hand holding his hat. Here's the unusual part, on Silver's front leg is a little loop of metal. Is there something missing from this figure? I haven't been able to find anything out about this so your my last hope. As for the value, the figure has just a little bit of edge chipping but given how fragile it is I would have to call it in Excellent or slightly better condition. Thanks The little metal bracket on Silver's leg was made to hold a child's toothbrush. Figural toothbrush holders were quite popular in the 30-50's and there are many examples. Quite a few cartoon and movie personalities were made into holders including Little Orphan Annie, Popeye, Felix and Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters to name a few of the top of my head. There are also a good deal of generic cute figural holders in addition to the celebrity/cartoon type. Your holder has crossover collectiblity because of this additional collecting category. It already has a few collector groups involved as well (e.g. Lone Ranger, Western heroes, etc..). Because of this the value will fluctuate somewhat depending on where you buy it and from whom. Still, this fluctuation will be minimal and in such nice condition you would see your figure selling in the $150-$185 range. Question:Hi Elle!,
I have an 8 1/2" x 12" hardback book based on the Beatles Yellow Submarine. It is dated 1968 and called a "gift book". The illustrations mirror the animation in the movie and it's really colorful.

Question:Could you please tell me the value of an album I bought in the 70's? The Rolling Stones "Some Girls".
Debi
Answer:Hi Debi!,
These cover variations were both released in 1978. To the best of my knowledge the faces aren't deleted as such and this version of the cover is usually referred to as the "under construction" cover. Where one version shows all the pictures of celebrity faces, the other has some with the words "under construction" instead of a picture. The outer cover has holes cut to view the pictures which are on the inner heavy sleeve.

Question:I wish to buy a Hubley "Panther Pistol" made about 1960. How much would one of these go for? It is a sleeve released full size derringer with a wrist flick action, the gun would pop out into your hand. Like on Wild Wild West. It take a standard roll of caps.

The cap pistol your seeking was manufactured in 1958. Just like paper items, condition on older metal items such as this is critically important in determining the value.

Question:Hi,
My husband has a Hopalong Cassidy Plate that was in his room as a small boy he is now 55. The plate has a picture of Hopalong waving while riding on his horse. He also a large toy figure of Hopalong Cassidy's horse. It is about 14" tall. The third thing is a Hopalong Cassidy metal toy gun. All three things are in mint condition.

Hopalong virtually invented the type of tie-in merchandising we see today and he also remains one of the most popular 40/50's Cowboy characters to collect.

Answer:Hi Ted,
Got to love those politically incorrect games! Even back when this was released it raised quite a few eyebrows because of its controversial theme. The subtitle for this game was "Why bother working for a living?". The game board is quite involved and includes cards for "Working man's burden" or "Welfare benefit". The Welfare benefit cards involve taking advantage of the various government systems.

Question:I have an unused Elvis ticket from March 30, 1977. The concert was in Alexandria, La. The ticket as I said is untorn, but it is wrinkled a bit. I can provide a picture if needed.
Answer:Hi Brino,
There was a find of unused Elvis 1977 tickets some time ago but yours differs in that most of these tickets were for shows that were canceled due to Elvis passing. Your show happens in March and Elvis died on August 11. All things being equal, this will help the value a little but it is still a late concert in his career. Also the fact that the cache of tickets previously found have long since dried up and availability of unused tickets is becoming scarce which also helps values.

Question:I have a 78 recording of Brenda Lee on a Decca label. It's a Christmas recording in a cartoon picture sleeve. On the record itself, it has "I'm Gonna Lasso Santa Clause" on side 1 and "Christy Christmas" on side 2. It says Little Brenda Lee(9 years old). There are 3 sets of numbers:
K-174, W100418, 88215
Answer:Hi Ed,
78's can be a tough sell but it is a market that is growing along with the popularity of early record players, gramophones, etc.. Suffice to say that the people who want to buy 78s, want to buy them with a passion. The Decca catalog number is #88215.

Question:I have a 1974 "Glinda the Good Witch" Doll made by the Mego company. The doll is in mint condition and has a crown and wand but the box has a few dents in the cellophane cover. I am wondering about the value.
Lauren
Answer:Hi Lauren,
With the huge popularity and generally high market values for anything Wizard of Oz, this Mego figure seems to still fall behind what many would expect. I've seen a lot of these Mego figures trade hands in the last year so I have to go with the market value. I will mention that almost all of the other 8" Mego W.O.O figures fetch about 3 times what Glinda does.

The design for your watch has been repeated on a few watches including Criterion and Gruen but yours is yet another and one that I don't know the original manufacture. Question:I have an " Ask Swami" penny fortune telling machine/ napkin holder. It is decent condition. Original paint and fully stocked with the cards. (fortunes) There was an identical one on The Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner trapped in a small cafe. The "Swami" was telling him whether it was safe to leave or not. How much is it worth?
Answer:Hi Eddie!,
First I have to challenge your assertion a little and I'll tell you why. If my memory serves the machine featured on the Twilight Zone was not what is usually described as the "Ask Swami" machine. I believe your machine has colored insert cards (usually Red or Green) with a Swami head logo, manufacturer, instructions, etc. on the front with a chrome body that features a long napkin holder on either side. Again if the Pop culture portion of my brain (which is the majority of my brain matter by the way!) serves, the Shatner machine had a fantastic spring mounted Devil head on the top. You don't mention this and I would think that most people would since it is a stand out feature. I would add a little bit to the following if you machine is actually the one featured on the T.V. show. Having said all that I could certainly be mistaken about the look of the Shatner machine so no offense. Finally, since I've never seen on of these in person it is entirely possible that the devil was added to provide the necessary impact in the episode. Anyone know for certain? Pull out your DVD compilation and let me know.

Question:I have recently acquired a set of Beverly Hillbillies collectors series dolls (#1 of 12,000). The boxes are a bit messed up, but the dolls have never been removed. The copyright for the dolls is 1997. We have Jethro, Jed, and Ellie May. I am interested in knowing what value these dolls hold, if any.
Genson
Answer:Hi Genson,
Got some bad news for you, you most likely don't have the number one dolls in this set. ALL of these dolls were packaged in boxes that were numbered 1 of 12,000. I'm not sure how they got away with this but not only have I seen these on the secondary market but I was there when they were originally released and the shelf was full on "number 1" dolls. To the best of my knowledge this set of dolls was the only misnumbered set.

Question:I have been looking for the company and where it was that made Bascal aluminum glasses and bowls??
Dave
Answer:Hi Dave,
Easy one. Bascal is actually the company name and it was based in Italy. They made both anodized (colored) pieces as well as traditional Silver aluminum. In my experience, their anodized pieces tend to have a more resistant and shinier appearance than its counterparts, giving them and almost steel look. A small premium in value is often placed on nice condition anodized Bascal pieces.

Question:Hello,
This question combines the "What the h*ll is it?" category with the "What is it worth?" section. I have an Animal Fair plush dog wearing a dress from 1977. I don't know if she is a version of one of the popular "Henrietta" dogs, however, she does not have the characteristic name tag or bows in her ears. I'd like to know who this gal is and what she is worth. Also, I've conducted much research on the Internet trying to find information about Animal Fair, Inc. without any luck (I come up with obituaries from former employees). I also tried searching through one of the largest libraries in the country and failed to turn up anything on Animal Fair. I wonder if you could point me in another direction.

Answer:Hi Nerissa,
I'm not surprised that you've had difficulty finding the history of the Animal Fair company as it was bought out by the Princess Soft Toys company some years back. In fact, enter animalfairtoys.com in your browser and Princess will come up. Apparently the owner was the President of Animal Fair for a number of years and still utilizes the name but only for their promotional and premium line.
