The vast majority of the items in these categories come from our Retail Manager's (and former Magician's) personal collection.
"Though I've been selling Antiques and Collectibles for too many years to mention I still have a ways to go to become a full fledged "dealer". Becoming a dealer is one of the hardest things for a collector to do. It means you have to be willing to part with your stuff! Despite selling many of my truly loved items, there are a few collections that I still have a tough time parting with.
Magic is just one of those collections and it is a considerable one.
I was into magic since I was about 8 or 9 years old. By then I was already a card carrying member of Al's Magic Club and his shop in Washington D.C., along with Al himself (who, is still dazzling them to this day!) are one of a handful of shops/personas that gave birth to the ideology of our business today.
When Doug Henning created a magic boom in the early 1970's I hit the road and performed my magic act for Boy Scout jamborees, Carnivals and the like. Since I was already a collector then I combined the two passions/illnesses and have amassed a considerable collection of tricks, stage apparatus, books, ephemera and the like. Many of these items were Vintage/Antique when I bought them and your unlikely to find these on the market today since the few others that may be floating out there are in the clutches of Magicians who are just as unlikely to release them from their libraries. Because I have always been a collector at heart (just have to OWN it), many of these items have either never been used or only used once or twice for my own amusement.
Call it becoming a dealer, call it therapy, whatever - you win regardless."
